Negative Commands, Indirect Commands & Negative Indirect Commands

Example :

1.      After John eaten dinner, he wrote several letters and went to bed.

                    A                     B              C                        D

Correct answer :

After John ate dinner, he wrote several letters and went to bed.

Explanation :

In this sentence, the verb eaten in answer A is incorrect because the verb is wrote, which is verb 2, so we must change eaten (verb 3) to ate (verb 2). Thus A is the correct answer.

Example :

2.      George has not completed the assignment yet, and Maria hasn’t neither.

                 A                                  B            C                           D

   Correct answer :

George has not completed the assignment yet, and Maria hasn’t neither

Explanation :

In this sentence, the verb hasn’t neither  in answer D is incorrect because (hasn’t) the negative sentence and isn’t followed negative sentence again (neither), so we must change neither (negative sentence) to either (positive sentence). Thus D is the correct answer.
